  • SVYD remains active on social media during this pandemic.
  • COVID-19 has revealed that we need electeds that support their constituents and base their decisions on their constituents’ well being.
  • We need to get more young people elected into office.

 

Vice President: Alexander Gvatua

  • Due to COVID-19, canvassing is not an option right now, but SVYD hopes to support endorsed candidates by phone banking.

Membership Director: Allie Hughes

  • Membership to isolate and check local CDC for updates in their area
  • OCI (Orchard City Indivisible) meeting on 4/21/20 from 6:30-9:30PM

 

Finance Director: Ryan Globus

  • The fundraising committee has an upcoming fundraiser on May 28 at 7pm via Zoom.
  • COVID-19 has revealed the importance of local politics; grateful for local electeds

 

Political Director: Mustafa Arshad

  • Thankful for everyone that joined this meeting
  • Endorsement committee is ongoing and will be interviewing candidates soon; will endorse and talk about local races soon

The SVYD Bylaws were amended as follows at the April 20, 2020 meeting:

Article VII (Endorsements), Section 2(c)(ix) shall be amended to read as follows:

 

Any general membership endorsement vote must receive a simple 60% majority to be adopted.

      • D-8: Silvia Arenas won first place at 60.5%
      • D-10: Matt Mahan won primary election
    • Magdalena Carasco D-3 Supervisor race is going to be tight
    • State Assembly District 25- Alex Lee had great showing for AD 27
    • State Senate District 15- Dave Cortese won primary
    • Measure G passed at 58.6% and Measure H failed by 62.3%
  • Huy Tran campaign update
    • Although results were not desirable, campaign had the most volunteers and was impactful
    • Thankful for SVYD support
