July General Meeting Minutes

      • Working on building out the Build the Bench Program, a program for those that align with the SVYD values and give them the tools to run for a local campaign. Organizing the Summer Fundraiser on September 12th at Guildhouse in Downtown SJ.
    3. Membership Director Dominic Treseler
      • Transitioning into Executive Board position and working on backend membership information, new membership outreach, and following up on outstanding membership dues.

    6. Communications Director Kobe Lopez
      • Discussed preparing marketing materials for previously discussed projects and plans to leverage SVYD Discord further for internal committee and general membership engagement.
  4. New Business
    1. Welcome and Recognition of Councilmember-elect Anthony Tordillos in celebration of his recent election to represent San José District 3 and his continued commitment to progressive leadership.
      • Councilmember-Elect shared thanks to SVYD for support in the electoral campaign, and discussed first priorities for office such as supporting housing affordability, unhoused residents, and the LGBTQ+ community in San José.
    2. Know Your Rights Training presented by Rapid Response Network to provide members with critical legal information regarding interactions with law enforcement and immigration authorities.
      • Santa Clara Country Rapid Response Network volunteers administer training covering legal boundaries/protections of Rapid Response Network work. The training included best practices for being an effective responder including documenting and defusing hostile interactions with law enforcement.
    3. Fast Food Fair Work Ordinance Presentation by Neil Park-McClintick and Jose Abastida on proposed legislation advancing labor protections in Santa Clara County and opportunities for SVYD advocacy.
      • Neil Park-McClintick and Jose Abastida share data showing 94% of workers don’t know what benefits they are entitled to and call on SVYD to support the campaign during upcoming vote by Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors to require know-your-rights training for workers.
