SVYD Endorsement Process
The Silicon Valley Young Democrats’ (SVYD) endorsement process is led by our Political Director and typically begins after the filing deadline. The process includes the following steps:
- Contacting Candidates: After the filing deadline, the Political Director reaches out to all candidates, as well as leading supporting or opposing organizations for non-candidate ballot decisions, to inform them about the endorsement process.
- Endorsement Questionnaire: All candidates seeking endorsement must complete the endorsement questionnaire at least one week before the general membership endorsement vote.
- Endorsement Committee Recommendations: Based on the completed questionnaires, the Endorsement Committee makes recommendations on the candidates.
- General Membership Meeting: Candidates will be invited to interview during the general meeting in front of the membership. The general membership can vote to accept the Endorsement Committee’s recommendation or make a new motion for the endorsement. Different voting thresholds apply for each action.
For more detailed information, please see our bylaws on our website.
Why Seek Our Endorsement?
Candidates in Santa Clara County should seek SVYD’s endorsement because our club is a significant and influential voice for young Democrats in the region. An endorsement from SVYD signals strong grassroots support from young voters who are actively engaged in political processes and community advocacy. This endorsement can help bolster a candidate’s credibility and visibility among an essential and active demographic.
